Chartered Physiotherapist | ACPAT Category A Equine Physiotherapist | RAMP Registered

Hello, I’m Jo—a fully qualified Chartered Physiotherapist and ACPAT Category A Veterinary Physiotherapist, specialising in horses.

My journey began with a lifelong love of horses. As a teenager, I was fortunate to groom for Olympic eventer Richard Meade, and later at international competitions including the Adelaide 4* (now 5*) with Australian Olympian Olivia Bunn and the European Young Rider Championships in Poland with Great Britain’s Georgie Davies.

I went on to complete a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy at Huddersfield University in 2004, and after gaining vital experience through core rotations in Bath’s NHS hospitals—including neurology, orthopaedics, rheumatology, and intensive care—I progressed into senior musculoskeletal roles and private practice. Alongside this, I pursued my passion by training with the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT), qualifying as a Category A practitioner in 2007.

A Holistic, Dual-Perspective Approach

My background in both human and equine physiotherapy allowed me to offer a unique, dual-perspective approach—treating horses, riders, and the dynamic connection between them. I’ve trained in equine massage with the legendary Mary Bromiley, and in Swedish massage and acupuncture for humans.

My equine physiotherapy foundation was shaped by the inspiring Jo Paul—now President of the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP)—at Woolland Rehabilitation Centre in Scotland. It was here my love for equine rehabilitation truly took root.

“I highly recommend Jo. An extremely intuitive physio, understanding and working from the horse and rider’s perspective. Also a really lovely person.”

Dawn Cameron, Equestrian Manager, Lucknam Park

“Jo is an extremely knowledgeable and professional physiotherapist. She creates first class rehab/ strengthening plans to enable you to really get your horse as strong and comfortable as possible. I cannot rate her highly enough for our dear horses.”

Amelia Gough, Horse Owner

“You and your horse will be in safe, caring hands with the lovely Jo.”

Anna Quiggin, Equine Vet

Life, Experience and Return

After building a thriving equine practice and taking on an associate, life took a different path in 2013. I took a 12-year break to raise my family, during which time my passion for physiotherapy never waned. After 200 hours of courses, shadowing, hands-on practice, and self-directed learning, I regained both my Chartered Physiotherapist status and ACPAT Category A membership. I’m proudly listed on the RAMP register—recognised as a gold standard in animal musculoskeletal care.

Why I Do This

My own experience recovering from spinal surgery has given me not only deep empathy but a genuine understanding of pain, rehabilitation, and recovery. I approach every horse and rider with sensitivity, professionalism, and a strong ethical foundation. I believe in listening closely—to both the body and the behaviour—and tailoring each treatment with care and precision.

I own two wonderful horses: Rum (retired after a diagnosis of lumbosacral fractures and sciatic nerve impingement) and her sweet natured son William. They continue to teach me every day and keep my passion alive.

I’m truly excited to be back — bringing knowledge, intuition, and heart into every session. Whether helping a competition horse perform at its best, or supporting a much-loved companion through recovery, I’m here to help horses move well, feel well, and thrive.
